Robin Goomes' journey with Mons Royale began in the summer of 2021. Living out of a van and adventuring in Queenstown, Robin was discovered at the local jump spot, Wynyard. Invited to the Future Ground event hosted by Mons, she quickly became an integral part of the team. We caught up with Robin at the start of the MTB season to discuss her journey, gear, and insights as she embarks on another intense season on two wheels. Since our interview, Robin has clinched the title at the first-ever Female Mountain Bike Slopestyle World Tour event in Rotorua and secured a second place in Cairns.

Finding the Love for Biking

"In some ways, it’s always been there, everyone had dirt bikes growing up. During high school I lived near a BMX track and started racing that- I’ve always found a way to be on two wheels. Every once in a while I’ve got an electric moto that still gets pulled out and ripped around on," says Robin.

Essential Gear for the Road

When it comes to travel essentials, Robin keeps it simple but effective. "Always a multi-tool, always a helmet but more recently a kendama when headed for the airport. It’s a great toy to kill time with." Robin's favorite piece of Mons Royale gear? The Virage bike pants. "They're just the best," she says.

Robin's life motto is simple but powerful: "Do the Mahi, get the treats." Mahi is the Maori word for work, and this phrase encapsulates her dedication and drive to achieve her goals. As Robin continues to push boundaries and achieve new heights in the world of mountain biking, her journey with Mons Royale is just getting started.
