Transparency
Transparency isn’t a buzzword - it’s our backyard. Thirty minutes from our Wānaka HQ, Merino sheep graze the same slopes we ski and ride. From these hills to your gear - we know every step of the journey.
WHERE IT BEGINS
The Growers Club
We partner with nine farms across the Southern Alps of New Zealand through the ZQRX regenerative platform. It’s more than traceability - it’s connection. We know our growers by name, their land, their animals, and their stories.
The Gold Standard of Merino Wool
All our wool is ZQRX-certified, the highest benchmark for animal welfare, environmental care and social sustainability. Each grower measures progress, from restoring waterways and planting natives to reducing carbon and strengthening communities. That means your gear starts in a system that’s not just sustainable - it’s regenerative.
While we source certified ZQ and RWS Merino Wool from New Zealand and Australia, the majority of our supply comes specifically from our Grower Club - nine merino stations from literally just down the road, who are just as committed as we are to bettering people and the planet.
HOW IT'S MADE
Our Supply Chain
Our gear is made by people we know and trust. We’ve spent over a decade building long-term partnerships with world-class manufacturers who share our values - respect for people, animals and the planet. From fibre to freight, every step matters. A full list of our factory partners is here, as well as our Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) statement and Code of Conduct.
Suedwolle Yarn Spinning
Our wool is spun by Suedwolle, global leaders in Merino yarn innovation. They combine precision engineering with the highest environmental standards, holding Bluesign® and Oeko-Tex® certifications. Their expertise ensures our yarn starts clean, strong and built to perform.
Shanghai Challenge Cut & Sew
We’ve partnered with Shanghai Challenge Textiles for over ten years. Their team are experts in Merino performance apparel, helping us push natural fibres to new levels of durability and comfort. They were the first in Shanghai to receive Environmental Certification.
Shipping - The Slow Way on Purpose
We move product by sea whenever possible, reducing freight emissions by around 90% compared to air. It takes longer, but it’s worth it - lower impact, same quality. This slower, smarter approach keeps performance high and our footprint low.
THIRD PARTY CERTIFICATIONS
How We Prove It
We don’t expect trust - we prove it. Every Mons product is backed by independent verification across environmental, ethical, and social impact. These certifications keep us honest and push us to do better every season.
Toitū - Carbon Reduce
We partner with Toitū Envirocare, New Zealand’s gold standard in environmental auditing. They measure our Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions, helping us track, reduce and offset our footprint across all operations. It’s real data, verified independently - not just green talk.
Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI)
We’re proud members of the Ethical Trading Initiative, a global alliance promoting fair labour and safe working conditions. ETI ensures everyone in our supply chain - from mill to sewing floor - is treated with dignity, respect and transparency. That’s what responsibility looks like.
B Corp - Business for good
B Corp is our framework for continuous improvement. It measures how we treat people, the planet and profit - and challenges us to do better each year. We’re proud to be part of a global movement using business as a force for good.
The Bigger Picture
Our goal is simple: to move the world from synthetics to nature’s performance fibre - Merino Wool. Because when your gear starts in nature, it performs better and leaves less behind.
Our Story
Sometime back in the early noughties, a storm-chasing Kiwi ski bum living out of a ski bag pondered a big problem - his gear wasn't cutting it for both epic mountain missions and post-shred hangs at the bar. Here we are 16 years later.
Merino Science
Merino Wool is 96% better than polyester at sweat management. It adapts in ‘stop-go’ sports to keep your microclimate dialled - warm when you’re standing still, dry when you’re pushing hard.
Merino Performance
Merino Wool is at the centre of everything we do. It's nature's performance fibre. Merino keeps you cool when it's hot, warm when it's not, and smelling fresh from first chair to last round.
