We've created epic bike gear for 15+ years and we've just upped the game with our newest range. Enter: Diversion. Built as a collaboration between two meccas of outdoor riding, Wānaka and British Columbia, we roped in experts and athletes to deliver the best new thing in biking.
What inspired the new range?
“It started from wanting to reinvigorate our bike line with a real focus on Merino Wool and performance. We’ve become experts at using Merino and wanted to take the Diversion Capsule to the next level with pieces that were super articulated and balanced perfectly.” - Anna Mallinson, Head of Product Management.
How do you test a new product?
"We did so many hours of R&D with our athletes and ambassadors in Squamish and Wānaka to ensure we were building a product that fit the lifestyles of people on their bikes every day. Team rider Robin Goomes rated the new kit on durability and it's ability to flex with her in all angles of a slopestyle course. We had Matt Fairbrother out testing the shorts. Racing in the NZ MTB Rally, he wore the capsule while completing gruelling multi-day rides." – Ola Krol, Athlete and Brand Marketing.
"Everything we do here is rooted in versatility - that’s why we do it with Merino Wool. If I walk around the office and see the staff wearing the pants, it’s a signal of us doing our job right.” – James Noorkoiv, Product Director
We know you'll love everything in this new capsule, but if there were two pieces to try out, we’d recommend the Diversion Trail Pants and the Diversion Wind Jacket. They combine what we set out to do, focusing on Merino benefits, versatility in your riding kit, and durability for the longer ride.
Diversion Trail Pants: A new take on bottoms
The initial idea for these was to make a pair of pants that suited all styles of riding as there wasn’t anything like that on the market. We didn’t make them with a single focus on downhill or gravel. These are bike pants for the longer ride and all the trails in between.
"Often bike pants look too much like bike pants to feel truly wearable off the bike, we kept that in mind when designing these pants so that you look good when you’re on the bike but also like them after”. – James Noorkoiv, Product Director.
Diversion Wind Jacket: Your packable side-kick
This jacket is a quiver killer. Perfect to throw on while packing up camp and riding out before the farmer finds you. Frigid mornings on the work commute or sunset bike park laps going full-send are not spent worrying about wind chill. Our Merino shift fabric keeps you toasty when you need it and it breathes better than your grandma's ventilator. While the Pertex up front keeps that wind from getting up where it doesn’t belong!
”With a wind shell in only the right places, I'm sheltered from the cold wind, kept warm inside and with more than enough breathability to be able to wear it for the whole ride.” – Matthew Fairbrother, Athlete.
What's next for Mons Royale?
Watch this space as we prepare to launch our Winter 2025/26 range. Some new technology is coming down the pipe. Taking the same approach for tackling those cold weather missions we're bringing you reimagined products to get you stoked. But we can’t reveal too much just yet. 🤫
